September Astrology Report 2008

By Linda Clave

The Fall Equinox, September 22, begins the third quarter of the year, and an uphill struggle as Pluto finally leaves Sagittarius November 26 and Saturn in Virgo builds toward an opposition with retrograde Uranus in Pisces November 2, just days before the presidential election. September will be a busy month as Saturn in Virgo drives a need to accomplish a lot of unfinished business and to restructure institutions for public health and security. Mercury transiting Libra, the sign of balance, relationships and marriage partnerships, turns retrograde on September 26 until October 15. The tendency while Mercury is in Libra is to refrain from making impulsive decisions (unlike its opposite sign, impetuous Aries) and instead to weigh the choices, swinging back and forth in deliberation. In its retrograde motion, expect delays before decisions are made. The Full Moon falls in the middle of the month on September 15, with the Moon conjunct Uranus in opposition to the Sun. Quick changes of events and reversals may cause inner turmoil. The New Moon September 29 is working through the retrograde Mercury position and the stressful effects of Saturn approaching the opposition to retrograde Uranus. People will have a hard time making up their minds, especially the swing voters.

On August 30 the New Moon at 7 Virgo 48 signaled the elemental shift to mutable Earth and the closing days of summer. The Sun is now making its way South toward the Tropic of Capricorn andthe natural seasonal preparation has begun. Here we begin the difficult physical adjustment, as we move inward towards our core, much like the tree’s sap as it returns to its roots. Virgo is the Harvest in full swing, bringing in the sheaths that make the flour, canning or freezing the fruits and vegetables and drying the corn planted in the first earth sign, Taurus. These are all physical, practical, reality-based chores that keep life on track. So naturally Virgo is the sign associated with the work that sorts out the best and discards what isn’t useful. To accomplish these tasks, faculties of sharp focus, discernment and discrimination are needed to promote purity, cleanliness and consciousness of a healthy life style. Anatomically Virgo rules the intestines. The intestines again reinforce the link with our ability to sort and discriminate. The digestive process is the intake of the harvest into our physical system for our wellbeing. Mercury rules Virgo as well as Gemini. In Virgo Mercury is the consciously able to determine and apply the right substance and portion, much like an alchemist or pharmacist. Virgo is also the sign of service. Service is humble and focuses its attention on process rather than on glamour or the expectation of reward. This is emphasized while Saturn is in Virgo. Unlike Leos, who need to be noticed and acclaimed, Virgos are happy in a quiet roles as assistant, nurse or editor.

As wisdom is unchanging, I am repeating the 2007 Virgo article by Peter Kubaska, an esoteric astrologer who has studied Alice Bailey material for forty years. Peter is past president of the Besant Lodge of the Theosophical Society, Boston, where he instructs esoteric astrology. Peter can be reached for consultations at 413 387-9208. Please visit Peter’s new web site at www.sevensuns.us.

“Virgo the Virgin is ruled by Mercury, which has a higher and lower aspect.   The lower aspect, related to the Moon, works through the five senses, the nervous system and its sensibilities, and concrete concepts. The higher aspect of Mercury is purely abstract and formless, and functions through Insight and Intuition. The intuition is like the higher psychic nature, which functions through the heart. The intuition operates directly through the mind when it is full of spirit or soul. Intuitive wisdom thinks with the heart, and sees directly through the transformed mind. The Moon rules the brain through which the Mind has to function, for good or ill.

When you see the Moon, you see Form. Behind every form, like the Moon, are other levels and energies. The Moon (and Form) also reflects greater lights, like the Sun’s Being and Mercury’s higher Intuition. These are what interest the esoteric astrologer. Later along the Path, Mercury rules the rainbow bridge (antahkarana) between planetary and solar energy (etheric) levels. Solar energies refer to our solar system and its inner life. For instance, the 11/22-year cycle of sunspots is said by Theosophy to represent the
beating of the solar heart. The Sun expresses itself through cycles much vaster than the seasonal cycles humans experience on the Earth planet.

While the standard rulers of the astrological signs work on the personality level, the spiritual student is more interested in probing beneath the
surface. By meditating on the Signs and Planets, their symbols and meanings, their inner levels and energies are revealed.

On inner levels, Virgo is said to be ruled by Vulcan. Who is Vulcan? Vulcan is the celestial blacksmith who lived in a volcano, forging weapons, shields and tools from metal and fire. Vulcan works with fire, and by repeated hammering (vibration, mantra, song), builds links between parts for the sake of the Whole. Each individual contains a spark of the divine nature within.   Virgo, the Virgin, guards this spark until it is born and takes its full form. Virgo also rules the gestation process, or the labor pains one undergoes in giving birth to an idea, a creative work, or a baby. Vulcan represents staying power and the endurance of the spiritual will during this painstaking time. In many ways, Virgo represents the shaman’s solitary vigil, purification and voluntary renunciation until it achieves fruition in a shamanic dream, vision, or realized project. But Virgo is shy and retiring while it shelters the growing life within the cave of the heart. And it is long-suffering when attempting to share this life with the outer world at large. Patience and forbearance hold and guard the bigger picture, and both require real inner, authentic courage.”

September 7. Mars at 12 Libra conjoins Mercury and squares retrograde Jupiter in Capricorn just before it stations direct. In investments, this cardinal aspect can signal intense up and down speculation, continuing into September 8.

September 8. Double action: Jupiter at 12 Capricorn 32 stations direct and squares Mercury in Libra . Jupiter will square Mercury again after Mercury’s retrograde period at 18 Libra on October 28. Mercury also conjoins Mars, quickening the reaction to changes. Then Pluto stations direct at 28 Sagittarius 30. This is a turning point day. Take time to digest and weigh consequences before taking on any large projects or investments.

September 11. Venus is conjunct Mars at 14 Libra.   Passion may outweigh reason and take off.

September 12. The Sun at 20 Virgo opposes retrograde Uranus. This is a day to just do something spontaneous without analysis or reasons. It also can be a day to break off or out of old worn out ways in work or relationships.

September 12 and 13. You can learn intuitive skills. I will teach dowsing in a lovely farm setting at 2008 is the Year of Gardening for Health: Cultivating Wellness, Dorchester, NH.

September 15. The Moon is Full at 22 Pisces 24 with 2 Virgo 40 rising over Washington, DC . Taskmaster Saturn, in the First House at 13 Virgo 20, is applying to the opposition with unpredictable retrograde Uranus in Pisces, which is conjunct the Full Moon. Mercury at 19 Libra is about to turn retrograde. Mercury rules the Ascendant and is in the Second House conjunct Venus and Mars. Expect more issues concerning the   financial state of the world economy with currency reevaluations. Anything can change and change again in the process underway. Negotiate your issues with diplomacy and patience. Love and tough love are needed to bring issues to a satisfying conclusion. On a personal level there is a positive placement at work here. Healing energy is available to move us forward through old wound patterns with Mars, Venus and Mercury trining retrograde Chiron in Aquarius conjunct the North Node and retrograde Neptune all in the Sixth House!

September 17. Venus at 22 Libra trines Neptune in Aquarius. This an especially romantic day, also exceptionally good for the arts.

September 19. Mercury at 22 Libra trines Neptune in Aquarius. This is a good day to write or compose. Creative inspiration is high.

September 21. Mars at 22 Libra trines Neptune in Aquarius. Increased sensitivity enhances creative, musical and psychic activities.

September 22. The Fall Equinox at 0 Libra.   Change is key to all cardinal signs as they initiate the four seasons and four directions. Zero degrees Libra is the pivotal point of the Fall. Here the Sun’s journey south tucks down beneath the Equator on its way to the Winter Solstice in the Tropic of Capricorn. Fall is the social season with lengthening night skies, evening events and social gatherings. Venus rules; the stage is set  for Venusians to weave their magical charms.

The Fall Equinox turns our energies, or qi, inward, which can be challenging after the summer’s heat has expanded us. This necessitates quite an adjustment in what we eat and what we wear. This year the adjustment requires more patience and flexibility as contracting Saturn in Virgo moves toward its stressful opposition to retrograde Uranus in Pisces. Venus, Mars, and Mercury, the inner planets, are all in Libra. We can expect expect a very active social calendar. The economy, debt and inflation will be issues on the top of the national agenda with 26 Scorpio 55 rising over Washington, DC. They will hang over this period as smog. The Fall Ingress chart has Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, sitting on the cusp of the Second House of financial resources. Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio and is now direct at 28 Sagittarius, putting a finishing touch on its major conjunction with Jupiter December of 2007. Jupiter is also in the Second House, in conservative Capricorn. Together they oppose the Eighth House Moon in Cancer. The Eighth House represents financial institutions, which hold our credit and debt both personally and nationally. The Cancer Moon here speaks to the housing market and mortgage foreclosures, which are still unresolved and remain big issues for the political candidates. They need to come up with a policy that works! Jupiter’s trine to Saturn is a bright note helping to stabilize the situation, but this is a conservative time, so conserve your energy to stay focused. Practices of qi flow as in yoga, tai chi or qi gong, as well as bodywork, are a great help.

The Fall Equinox is a day for celebration and adjustment. There are a variety of energetic spiritual and social activities available to participate in:

September 21. Linda Clave and Kate Rafferty will lead the Astrology Tong Ren Group at the Theosophical Society at 21 Maple St, Arlington, MA from 3 to 5 PM. This is an opportunity to get in tune with the Fall Equinox and then allow this dynamic energy to integrate into your body.

September 21. At 3 PM Katja Esser will host a special event at America’s Stonehenge in Salem, NH: http://www.stonehengeusa.com/autumnal_equinox.htm

In Munson MA September 19–21 at Horsemunn Farm, there will a multi-event gathering in which Peter Champoux, author of last month’s earth alignment article, will speak on Saturday, September 20. Dowsing, labyrinths and earth energies will be featured. Call 413 267-5009.

Sharon Mullen invites you to participate in Astrology, Tong Ren and World Peace at this turning point on the Cardinal Axis. Sharon Mullen is a Tong Ren therapist who has studied with Tom Tam, the originator of Tong Ren, for 22 years. Sharon is also a Certified Astrologer, Level IV, National Council of Geocosmic Research. She is the First Vice President of the Boston Chapter of NCGR.
Sharon may be reached at 617-288-4264, or SharonMuln@aol.com.  Sharon writes:

“Tong Ren is an energy healing system, developed by a Boston area acupuncturist, Tom Tam, who is originally from China. The system is based on a combination of western anatomy and physiology and techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Tong Ren therapists are not medical doctors and they do not diagnose illnesses or prescribe treatment. If we can release ‘blockages’ which cause impingement of the body’s bioelectricity, we can help the body to heal. Tong Ren therapists typically ‘tap’ a small plastic model of the human body, a ‘doll’, using a small acupuncture-related hammer. (The doll and the hammer are only used to help the therapist focus intent. They have no inherent power of their own.)

It appears that Tong Ren works under the principles of quantum physics. Astrology seems to ‘work’ in a similar manner to Tong Ren. Planetary energies have certain discernable effects. ‘Hard’ aspects seem very much like the ‘blockages’ which Tong Ren seeks to alleviate. I have tried to incorporate some of Tong Ren’s techniques, which have proven so effective in promoting physical healing, to help to heal the world, the collective, and to hopefully promote world peace.

For the moment, I am focusing on just a few aspects, in only two charts. It is not really necessary to have the actual charts at hand, as it is really the aspects it seems we should focus on. We can literally tap along the words and/or symbols with our fingers, or just bring our attention, lightly, to the hard aspects, and thereby attempt to release the negative effects.

The first chart I have been using is that of the initial Pluto ingress (entrance) into Capricorn, January 25, 2008, at 9:38 PM, set for New York City, NY. The four angles were all exactly on the World Axis (0 Cardinal), with the Ascendant at 0 Libra, square Pluto. To alleviate its ‘blockages’, one could simply ‘tap’, gently, along Pluto and the IC at 0 Capricorn, and the 0 Libra Ascendant.

The second chart which I use, is the ‘natal’ chart of the USA, set for July 4, 1776 at (about) 5PM in Philadelphia. The sun at 13 Cancer squares Saturn at 14 Libra. This aspect may cause the ‘native’ to behave like a bully or tyrant. One may ‘tap’ the sun square Saturn (either the symbols or the words) to help release the inherent tension of this aspect.

Mercury in the USA chart is at 24 Cancer in opposition to Pluto at 27 Capricorn. While it is not generally acknowledged, the vast majority of the US media is controlled by corporate entities, which promote an agenda they believe to be favorable to them. One may ‘tap’ along the symbols or words of the Sun opposite Pluto to help release this tension, and let the public know the truth. The hope is that we can contribute ultimately to the promotion of world peace by relieving these major energy blockages.”

Thanks Sharon!

On Libra from the 2007 October Report:

“Libra is ruled by charming Venus, fair and beautiful. Here the art of expressing a softer, more romantic approach attracts the attention of a prospective mate rather than the bravura of forceful, aggressive Mars. Venus is aesthetic and works for harmonious resolutions. Libra is the second sign in the triplicity of air, and as all air signs are communicators, Libra is the next step beyond getting in touch in Gemini, to getting to know you. Libra’s glyph represents a set of scales or the setting sun and emphasizes balance. The planet Saturn is exalted in Libra, for Libra is a cardinal air sign denoting action with thoughtful consideration. Saturn’s task is to set limits, implementing order for the public welfare. Here the will of the individual becomes subservient to the law. Libra is also the sign of marriage or partnership sanctioned by laws governing committed unions or spiritual vows. Libra is opposite Aries, a sign full of youthful new projects and ideas springing forth with headstrong drive to express itself as ‘me.’ In Libra, the realization of the other dawns on us as ‘we,’ recognizing that diplomacy and artful tact are essential for success.”

September 23. Venus, ruler of Libra, enters the passionate sign of Scorpio until October 19.   This is a difficult transit for Venus is in Mars house. Resentments need to be worked out so as to keep good relationships from coming apart.

September 24. Mercury, the communicator, stations retrograde at 22 Libra 50 until it stations direct on October 15 at 7 Libra 36. This requires a lot of patience and double-checking of positions and facts before any long-term decisions are made. Each party in dispute needs time for a complete investigation and hearing in court or, in the case of politicians, in the court of public opinion.

September 28. Retrograde Mercury in Libra trines Neptune in Aquarius . This is the redo of September 19, also a good day to write or compose. Creative inspiration is high.

September 29. The New Moon is at 6 Libra 33 with 1 Virgo 39 rising over Washington, DC. Constrictive Saturn at 15 Virgo is smack in the middle of the First House representing the nation with unpredictable retrograde Uranus in opposition in the Seventh House of our allies and/or enemies. This lunation falls in the Second House of financial resources along with retrograde Mercury who rules the Ascendant. Finances dominate once again with a tittering market trying to adjust to the world economy. Again the bright note is the trine between two planets in Earth Signs, Saturn and Jupiter. Although they are in highly conservative placements, they do protect the status quo during the turbulence.
